This means people can now send in their applications for each contest category. While the other categories (Singleplayer, Multiplayer, Total Modifiction) had already launched, the Addon category was delayed until Arma 3’s support for Steam Workshop addons had been implemented.

The Make Arma Not War contest, which was announced in December, welcomes Arma 3 content creators to compete in four different categories: Total Modification, Singleplayer Game Mode, Multiplayer Game Mode, and Addon. The winner of the Total Modification category will take home €200,000, while in the other categories the prize money is divided between 1st place (€50,000), 2nd place (€30,000), and 3rd place (€20,000) winners. In collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Bohemia Interactive is also handing out the Health Care in Danger Special Award.

Although the winners in each category will be chosen by a jury, consisting of Bohemia Interactive representatives and other industry professionals, Arma 3 players will be able to ‘vote’ in the Singleplayer category. These votes will determine the 20 finalists in the Singleplayer category.

On top of voting, people can also ‘support’ their favorite entry, which is similar to the thumbs-up functionality on other websites. Those who support an entry, receive a Make Arma Not war forums badge and a 30% discount voucher for Arma 3 on Store.bistudio.com – while contestants whose entry reaches a certain number of supporters can earn Contest Milestone Rewards.

To apply, contestants should go to www.makearma.com/apply and start the application process. The deadline for applications is set on October 26th, 2014. The winners of the Make Arma Not War contest will be announced on January 15th, 2015.

More information about the contest, the rules, prizes, and categories is available on www.makearma.com. Important announcements will also be shared via the Make Arma Not War newsletter and the official Arma 3 social channels (Facebook, Twitter).

Arma 3 Karts, which was originally revealed as an April Fools‘ joke, was released about one month ago as a fun little sidestep in Arma 3’s typically military sandbox. Its primary purpose was to test Arma 3’s experimental approach to DLC, which Bohemia Interactive explained in more detail in their recent devblog.

Whereas DLC (downloadable content) often fractures a game’s playerbase between those who own and those who do not own DLC content, Bohemia Interactive prepared a solution which prevents such a split in the Arma 3 playerbase. By making all DLC content available to all owners of Arma 3, while applying a few reasonable restrictions to those who have not purchased the DLC content, people remain able to play together in Arma 3’s multiplayer environment. This strategy was further explained in Bohemia Interactive’s recent devblog, which also revealed that Arma 3 Karts would be the first DLC to launch under this concept. In addition, supporting the idea that Arma 3 Karts’ primary goal would be to test the new DLC approach, the studio announced that a portion of the Karts DLC proceeds would be d onated to the Czech Red Cross.

“Alongside helping us to evaluate Arma 3’s new approach to DLC, with the backing of our community, Arma 3 Karts has managed to raise money for a great cause”, said Jay Crowe, Creative Director on Arma 3. “A big thanks to our players, both for their support and their valuable feedback, which we’ll use to refine our implementation. Overall, we’re positive about the preliminary results and responses, which seems to benefit Arma 3 players and help sustain Arma 3 development.”

The Arma 3 Karts DLC will remain on sale for the relatively low price of 1.49 EUR / 1.99 USD / 1.19 GBP. It can also be purchased as part of the Arma 3 DLC Bundle, which includes the upcoming Helicopters and Marksmen DLC. The Arma 3 DLC Bundle, which saves people more than 25%, is available for 19.99 EUR / 24.99 USD / 16.99 GBP on Steam and Store.bistudio.com.

Founded in May 1999, Bohemia Interactive released its debut title Arma: Cold War Assault (originally released as Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis*) in 2001, and has since then developed more than 15 games and expansions. The studio’s birthday celebration is accompanied by an Arma 3 Free Weekend and a Bohemia Interactive Weekend Sale on Steam, plus a free game for everyone.

From 15th May until 18th May, all Steam users are able to play Arma 3 for free, with access to all content except for the second and third campaign episode. Those who would like to continue playing afterwards can pick up Arma 3 with a massive 40% discount. Bohemia Interactive’s other released games are also on sale – and while the studio does not usually offer discounts on its Early Access games, for its 15th anniversary Bohemia Interactive made a special exception, and has included DayZ and Take On Mars in the sale with a fitting 15% discount. Furthermore, as a birthday gift for everyone, Arma: Cold War Assault – Bohemia Interactive’s debut title – is available for free from now until the end of the weekend, and will stay in people’s Steam Library afterwards – providing them with the opportunity to experience where it all began.

In addition to the free game, Bohemia Interactive today also announced that people who have previously bought a non-Steam version of Arma 2, including the expansions and DLC, are now able to redeem their product on Steam using their original Arma 2 or Arma 2 expansion game’s CD Key (often found inside the box or provided by the reseller via e-mail).

Last but not least, Bohemia Interactive published a brand new video. Looking back at 15 years of making games, the 15th Anniversary video showcases the games which the studio has developed during the past one and a half decade. For the people who are interesting in learning even more about the studio’s background and future direction, Bohemia interactive also deployed a new company brochure.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has contributed in any way to the amazing 15 years at Bohemia Interactive. The journey so far has been exciting, often challenging, sometimes hard – but, ultimately, always rewarding” , said Marek Spanel, CEO and co-founder of Bohemia Interactive. “While the games industry has fundamentally changed since the early years, our community continues to stand at the heart of everything we do, and together we will continue to create incredible games.”
